The First Multimedia Fieldguide for Birds with a full description, pictures, distributionmaps and sounds of 305 birds occuring in Western Europe. This MP3 Fieldguide can be played on any PC and Mac but can also be used on MP3-players like the iPhone and iPod.
The core of the field guide is a comprehensive sound-collection of birds found in Western Europe, around which additional information is brought together, such as pictures, distribution maps and additional text. These appear automatically when selecting the audio file. For each species typically two MP3 audio files are available:
The first file of the species contains:Sound of the species (typically the song or the most common sound in non-passerines)Picture of the speciesDescription of the plumage of the speciesDetails about the sound and the picture
The second file of the species contains:Sound of the species (typically the call, or another vocalization in non-passerines)Distribution map of the speciesDescription of the distribution in Western EuropeDetails about the sound
A very large proportion of the sounds are recorded in Western Europe. They are almost all in stereo and of excellent quality. The collection is further completed with recordings from outside the region, typically for species that are less vocal over here. Also the pictures are largely taken in Western Europe, and just like the sounds, we aimed for excellent quality, by including pictures from professional bird photographers like Rudi Debruyne. In this way, the field guide lets you hear and see what can really be observed in our region, and with the best possible quality !
The recordings are by Peter Boesman. For the first time in many years (during 2007/8/9) new recordings were made in Holland and Belgium by using state of the art modern equipment. The recordings are all made with Telinga Parabole Microphones, everything is recorded in stereo, and Peter used digital recording equipment. The photographs, all made by profesional birdphotographers, were specially selected for the use on MP3-players like the iPod and Iphone. All pictures are clear and crisp. The distributionmaps covering the distribution of every species through whole Europe were made by Leila Kurbage, who is a profesional computer designer of maps. The text was specially written by Peter Boesman. This product is in the English language.
